From Christchurch through the Arthurs Pass, one of the major routes through the Southern Alps to the West Coast. and also on the Queenstown to Nelson route which follows up the coast. You will find Gaalburn Cheese Ltd, situated at Kumara Junction, on the main tourist route.

Located about 1 k toward Greymouth from the Junction round about, half way between Hokitika and Greymouth There is a purpose developed Dairy Goat Farm and Cheese Factory.

The block of land comprises 5.911Ha which in it's original state was a sphagnum moss swamp. This was "farmed" and exported Overseas to Japan where it was used for Horticultual Purposes.The picture on the right was typical of the Block.

After some research it was decided that there was enough land to be able to farm Milking Goats and produce Cheese in a Cheese Factory, an incredible opportunity to be the only producer of Goats Milk Cheese on the West Coast of the South Island on one of the busiest Highways in the country. The property and facilities meet all the requirements for resource consent to operate a retail outlet.The farm carries 180 goats including Bucks, Does and milking replacements / kids. Milking about 130 does twice a day in the milking season is a pleasure with a modern milking dairy.
